Qstn Fifteen

Do you read books????

What kind of books do you prefer????

Name one book which you’ve read and think everybody must read it atleast once….not because it teaches you something or has broken any records…..only because it pulled at YOUR insides.

A few funny Book titles I came across......

  1. I used to read a lot of books but not anymore………there are very few libraries out here and buying books all the time is out of question.
I prefer fiction but if there is no choice I’ll read anything…..even old newspapers & magazines are not spared;-D
Coming to a particular book..….actually I can’t think of any right now.
Ok here’s one, you are going to roll your eyes but I liked the Harry Potter series a lot….good versus evil and all that:-)).
And oh there is another book…..a non-fiction “I woz” by Steve Woznaik. I liked it simply because he believed in himself, went ahead and created history. He failed many times but took each setback as a chance to do better. It did pull at my insides….in the sense I got this terrible feeling that I was wasting precious time when I could be putting to much better use. Seriously, he gives you this feeling that “Everything is Possible”.

  2. I am also a fan of fiction....I like reading suspense/thriller types like Sidney Sheldon books, Harry Potter series that goes into the fantasy types, mushy romantic novels by Nicholas Sparks etc. One book I particularly liked is 'The Davinci Code'.

Books by Nicholas Sparks always pulls at my insides. His books speak mainly of love and the value of relationships.

  4. Recent Authors : Paulo Coelho, Khalid Hussenni, Amitav Ghosh, Yann Martel,MT Vasudevan Nair, Shobha Dee,Randy Baush, Neale Donald Walsh

College days : Chase. Robin Cook, Harold Robbins

So that will give an idea of the books I read.

Let me take the Liberty of suggesting two.

    1. A Thousands Splendid Suns- Khalid Husenni. Its a story about Afgan girl.

    2. Speedpost- Shobha Dee. Though generally her other books are very outspoken, this one book I would suggest every parent should read and every teenager too.

  6. I began reading books only since my post grad days. Luckily for me, everywhere I went for work, there was a lending library near my home, so, there was not a dearth of books since I began reading. Even here, the national library is very near my home :)

Some of the books I enjoyed reading most are The God of small things (Arundati Roy), The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho), The Fountain head (Ayn Rand), the kite runner (Khaled Hosseini)..and a few others including a few tamil books (S. Ramakrishnan, Jeyakandhan, Balakumaran etc). There are some books that take a while to get off from the characters (like Rahel and Estha in TGOST)...

Try reading 'All that matters' by Jan Goldstein, Nancy. It spreads such hope and positive spirit...

'I woz' seems like an inspiring book. I will search and find it...

When we talk of books, please spare some time and read this article on 'What is man' by Mark Twain. Interesting and Intriguing: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/70/70-h/70-h.htm#2H_4_0001

  11. Bless you sulo !

Now onto business :) Read lots of books - fiction, history and science fiction being my favourites. The genre I can't stand is business books most are written by narcissist gasbags ! My own blog qualifies in the same category !!

Favourite authors Arthur Conan Doyle, Arthur C Clarke, Issac Asimov, John Keay, Gary Jennings
RK Narayan, Richard Bach, Erich Segal, Somerset Maugham ..... and amongst contemporary fiction writers Lee Child and Harlan Coben.

Many "one book you must read" options, including some already mentioned by earlier commenters, but just to pick one from a different genre - science fiction - Rendezvous with Rama, by Arthur C Clarke (for my taste, the greatest science fiction book every written !)

  15. I simply love curling up on the bed with a book. I have read a lot of books starting with Enid Blyton and going on to hardy boys , nancy Drew , Sidney sheldon , John grisham , etc.
Loved "the kite runner" and " thousand Splendid suns".
Recently read "Palace of Illusions" By Chitra Devakaruni. I can now say I have read Mahabharat finally even if it is probably the most abridged version. I would recommend it to everyone who tried and gave up reading Mahabharat. :-)

  25. Read? That is as vital to me as breathing. I read anything that come my way, I ahve to read something even if I get back home at 2.30 in the night, that is how desperate I am.
One book - Too difficult. The one that tugged my heart the most would be 'The Kite Runner' by Khaled Hosseini. Heard the movie is as good.
Another one is 'Theo's Odyssey'by Catherine Clement. The original is in French and I ordered it through India Today Book club years back. Haven't seen a copy in any of the book stores, though. I had lent it to some of my close friends and even they just loved it. It's about a terminally ill 14 year old and how his rich aunt takes across the world in search of a cure. It takes us through the religions of the world through a young boy's eyes. I read this book at least once a year :-)

  29. I read a lot of books...of different variety..can suggest a 'must read' for people of all agre groups ;) My favourite authors are P G Wodehouse, Someset Maugham, Agatha Christie, John Grisham, Richard Bach, Georgette Heyer. I love English language classics too.

Every girl child should read St. Claires series, Malory Towers series. Every teenager should read 'Little Women' and the other books in the series. If you like humour, nothing to beat Wodehouse. If you like investigative thrillers and courtroom drama, Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh and Grisham are some of the best. When you are in love 'Bridge across forever' by Richard Bach is a 'must-read'...and if you love period novels and clean romance then Georgette Heyer is the one for you. Bronte sisters is great too (Wuthering Heights is a definite 'Must-Read' again!)

:) You will never ask me again!
