My dear blog-friends,
How are you??? Doing better than me I hope. I know you are wondering[atleast I like to think that] why I'm not posting all that much nowadays. Thats because there is
nothing much to say really. Yes, really. How much can
I go on about cooking, the kids exams and the weather.
I'm particularly miffed with the weather;-/
They said
it’s going to rain whole of this week and I’m still waiting…
..so far we
have 1 huge cloud looking like it’s about to burst.
[and why do I make a noise about seeing a cloud?? Because in the middle east we rarely see big clouds....the sky is always very clear with tiny clouds scattered here and there. So when we see a ominously dark, cloudy one, we get excited:-P]
...gloomy
weather
…thunderstorm
forecasts
…after 4
days of waiting now, the weather forecasters are warning us to carry umbrellas cause it’s going to
rain in 1 hour.
It’s been 3 hours and there's still no sign of it.
It rained in
Abu Dhabi, it rained in Sharjah, it’s raining on & off in Fujairah but Dubai
sees none of it.
It’s been 2
YEARS since it REALLY rained out here.
Can u blame
me for getting hyper????
I know what
u r thinking.
“N get a
grip will u, there are worse things to worry about” is what u r thinking, right???
Well ofcourse
there are worse things happening.
Did u know I
sprained my leg 2 weeks back and was hobbling around for more than a week???
Have I
complained about it to u till today???
Nobody
thought much of it and kindly let me do all the work until they saw my feet
swelling to double its size.
Even then I
didn’t get much sympathy.
Instead the
better-half was tight-lipped about the whole thing.
I knew he
was bursting to tell me off.
It happened
when I was in church and praying [now look, I hate to show off but facts are
facts]. When I finished there was nobody around and I panicked. So I quickly rose to my feet while my feet were still numb. In
that split second between numbness and pins-and–needles I tried to walk.
So
alright now I know that it was a stupid thing to do. I was supposed to wait for
a minute[or two] till blood circulation resumed and then try to walk. Mistakes happen right?? Can’t we just be grateful I didn't break my leg. A cousin of
ours fractured her foot trying to clean the ceiling fan. A friend’s son broke
both his ankles falling from the 1st floor. Actually he didn’t fall,
he jumped to avoid a friend who was chasing him. And here, all I was doing was minding my own business. See, what I’m
trying to say is that problems come when we least expect it. Why can’t we just
be thankful it isn't worse and make the best out of it.
I did
...I had a ball
making everybody fetch and carry for me.
...I made loud
owww and ouch sounds just for the heck of it.
...I propped up
my feet and watched movies back-to-back.
..My children
were very concerned & I lapped up all the attention.
...My friends and
neighbours sympathised & suggested various remedies. Which reminds me….I
tried all kinds of medicines like moov & massage but a simple home-remedy a
friend suggested worked out best: 2 tsps pf turmeric pwdr, 1 tsp salt, 2 drops
of oil mixed with enough water to make a thick paste….apply this to the affected area
& bind it with cotton or cloth. Believe it or not it made an immediate
difference[like in 4-5hrs][well after 2-3 days of pain 4-5hrs does feel like immediate] and the
pain reduced drastically.
Just looked out of the window now and guess what....the ever-faithful sun
is back in its favourite place.
Rain in 1
hour, my foot.
The weather
forecasters better find themselves another job before I get at them;-/.
Anyways gotta
go now….
I might as
well go dry some clothes while the sun shines.
U guys takes care and thanks for listening:-)),
Lotso luv
N
And when you put the clothes out to dry, it will rain. After that dont blame the weather forecasters ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh and by the way, it rained in Muscat and climate is like that of Ooty now buhahaha :D
I have noted down that home remedy. Sounds like something my in -laws would suggest in such a situation.
@rain - U can thank us for that. Dubai has been seeding the clouds for the past 2 months & the wind just drives it away & all the neighbouring emirates & countries are enjoying our[muncipality's] efforts;-(. Enjaai Maadi:-)).
DeleteLook at all the TLC you got. And your blog followers didn't even get into the act. You are one lucky girl :)
ReplyDeleteYou are anticipating rain in Dubai ?????????????????? What'll then happen to all the rain tourists you send to Bombay ....
Luck girl with a limp u mean;-P
DeleteBombay has nothing to fear, there's a difference of 2-5 yrs between anticipation and reality;-/.
dear nance, guess what? we had a smattering that can be called rain unexpectedly today! i think those clouds got moved here:-) sorry to hear about the sprain and great to hear that it is getting better. no, you did not complain about that at all when it happened! you should have:-) only nance can do a venting post that is so much fun to read:-) will try to blow them clouds your way...
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised...those clouds are ready to travel anywhere to avoid raining here;-/.
DeleteWhatever gave u the idea it was a venting post...it was a full of gratitude post...buaaahahaaa;-D.
Yeah, yeah blow them this way...just make sure u give them exact location....we are waiting;-).
Where is my comment? Have you enabled comment moderation? Just to check...
ReplyDeleteOh no, this one is published. Now for the original -
ReplyDeleteThe job of a weather forecaster is to give hope. In love, war, business & weather forecasting, a perfect lie makes all the difference.
Destination Infinity
Well it works fine for a few days but after that atleast they must deliver right otherwise we'll lose faith in them, I mean then whats the point???

ReplyDeleteThank you Rekha, u take care too:-))
DeleteI saw in one of the comments in the previous post that you had sprained your leg which was preventing you from sticking to your strict exercise regime :P give that foot a good rest and take care you!
ReplyDeleteRains used to be pet hates till I landed up here where it may rain any time huh. Consider yourself lucky to have not seen rains in 2 years . But then yea food for one is poison for another :)
And here's another one...Grass is always greener on the other side and aint it sooo true;-/. There were horrible traffic jams and drainage problems but u shd have seen us....overjoyed was the word;-D.

DeleteDear Nancy,
ReplyDeleteLoved reading the long blog-mail. Glad your leg is fine now, my sympathies with your family *wink* that reminds me, my mom puts in a home remedy to reduce the swelling and pain. Thick juice of Tamarind and salt heated up ( bearable heat of course) and apply on the swollen place using a feather. Yours is a good tip too ( tried and tested at it) and will make note of itm especially someone like me, who is so much prone to falling :-)
See, you have so many well wishers in your blog, you mention it in your blog and it rains cats and dogs.
May the rain gods frequent Dubai more oftem,
Lotsaluv
Vincy.
U are prone to falling....ohh thts terrible:-o. For me it's a once a year kind of thingie......every year without fail there is one fall and 1 week of hobbling;-/. I dont remember last yrs but 2 years bck I slipped and fell on one of the main rds in b'lore right after my H warned me to walk carefully;-/...I thk I wrote it also on the blog;-P. Thanks for the tip Vincy...sooner or later they all come in handy and lucky me wont have to go searching for it;-D.
DeleteWe dont wish for too much....just thankful it rained. Rains are once a year kind of happening in UAE, a desert after all:-)).
Sorry about the leg, hope you're 100% now. Great tip about the turmeric paste! Also just remembered my mum telling me about pineapples as painkillers. You just have to eat plain pineapple & that works apparently.
ReplyDeleteReally pineapples are painkillers;-o....I know for a fact tht pineapples are good for digestion & also good for allergies and now painkillers also...coool:-)).
ReplyDeleteI'm good as new, thanks Salomie. Great to see u too:-)).
